Here are some beautiful reminders for those moments when you feel like a failure before God.
There are times when I deeply feel like a failure, and I want to be honest about it. It might be unexpected to read such words on a Christian Women’s blog, but it’s the truth. Thank God that His grace is sufficient.
Sometimes, despite my efforts and blessings, I feel like a failure, which can be discouraging. Now, let me share why this happens and offer some perspective.
So Why Do I Sometimes Feel Like A Failure Before God?
In July 2016, I made a big move from Kingston, Jamaica to a small island in Okinawa, Japan. I was seeking a significant change in my life and my relationship with God was at stake.
To occupy my time on the island, I started a blog called “MyDeeDeesDiary,” which eventually transformed into “Daeyna.com.”
After taking a break, I launched my podcast “She Is A Message,” which now includes the blog you’re reading.
Despite my achievements, I often feel inadequate and struggle to measure up to others or complete my endeavors.
Becoming A Course Junkie
As I searched for my purpose in life, I found myself purchasing various online courses. I hoped that these courses would provide answers and help me get closer to God’s plan for me.
However, despite my expectations, these courses didn’t provide the answers I longed for.
Can you relate to this feeling of questioning if God sees you as an epic failure? Have you ever gone to great lengths in your search for answers from God?
Do You Know Your Identity In Christ?
Out of all the courses I’ve purchased, I’ve only managed to finish about five.
I thought completing these courses would reveal my true identity and purpose, envisioning myself as a renowned speaker or life coach.
However, God intervened and showed me that my worth as His daughter surpassed any worldly achievements or titles. It was a challenging journey, but as I sought God, He revealed who He created me to be.
Initially, I desired worldly recognition, but I discovered that being a child of the King was more than sufficient. You might relate to these feelings too.
How Do You Find Your Identity In Christ?
I have a friend who excels in her roles as a wife, mother, and entrepreneur. She often, however, struggles to define her true identity. Is she just a wife, a mom, or something more?
She discovered that her ultimate identity lies in belonging to God. In reminding herself of His perspective, she can rest in God’s promises when she feels like she has failed.
As Christians, we should not conform to the world’s wealth-driven definition of success. Instead, we are called to renew our minds and strive towards the heavenly goal (Romans 12:2, Philippians 3:13-14).
What Does This Mean For Us As Believers?
The Bible tells us to focus more on God’s word than on messages from movies, celebrities, songs, and TV shows. It reminds us of who we are in God’s eyes: chosen, free, loved, precious, special, and citizens of heaven.
These promises reveal our true identity. The song “I Know Who I Am” by Sinach captures this truth. It reassures us that we are chosen, excellent, provided for, and secure in God’s hands.
During a recent visa interview, God reminded me of who I am, and I want to remind you too.
You are holy, righteous, rich, beautiful, empowered, and favored because you know who you are and whose you are.
Jesus Didn’t Need Earthly Recognition. Neither Do We.
Earthly recognition was never a requirement for Jesus to know His true identity. Even without performing miracles or walking on water, His identity as the Son of God, the Messiah, and Emmanuel remained unchanged.
Similarly, your worth and identity are not determined by groundbreaking achievements. Sometimes, I too feel like a failure before God, believing I’ve wasted time, talent, and resources. In those moments, I recall the empowering words of Sinach.
It’s in those moments where my faith in God and my walk with God is truly important.
I understand that my walk with Christ is based on faith, not fleeting emotions. Even if I spend my entire life never being seen for my good work or the kind of faith I have, that’s okay.
I strive to do my best and rely on God’s grace. Instead of relying on my limited understanding, I trust in the Lord’s guidance.
Through these reminders, I reaffirm whose I am.
And so should you.
All my love,
